Special Needs Preschool Program
-
The Special Need Preschool Program is a federally mandated service. An amendment to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) makes available a range of educational opportunities for children with moderate and severe disabilities who are three to five years old. The program is offered through the Jasper County Charter System, and children are served at the Jasper County Preschool or through a community-based approach. All services are voluntary for this program.
Any Jasper County child age three, four, or five who is experiencing significant difficulties or delays in development, whether physical, mental, or emotional, can be referred for service. Areas of concern can include difficulties in developing speech and language skills, thinking skills, motor skills, adaptive skills, or social skills. An assessment will be conducted to determine if your child qualifies for special education services through the Special Education Preschool Program.
A parent or guardian should call to refer a child for this program. A completed referral packet is required prior to scheduling an evaluation. Hearing and vision screenings are needed but can be completed at the Health Department or Jasper County Preschool. To refer a child, or for additional information, contact the Office of Instructional Support Services at 706-468-6350, ext. 112 or the Jasper County Preschool at 706-468-4972.
