• Does my child need any supplies?

    Posted by:

At the beginning of the school year, you will need to pay a $35 supply fee.  This covers all the classroom supplies your child will need such as folders, agenda, pencils, erasers, glue and crayons.  Your child will also get a class shirt to wear for field trips.  From time to time, I may send home a note about some other classroom need such as Clorox wipes and facial tissue.  We go through a lot of these and they are always a welcomed donation.

  • Will there be homework?

    Posted by:

Yes, your child will receive homework on Monday.  There will be one page of reading and one page of math homework. The homework will be due Friday. Your child should also study sight words nightly, this is an expectation.  The homework is quick and can be done all at once or a little each night. Homework is a review of what your child is learning in class. It should be able to be completed independently; however, your child may need help with the directions.  As long as the completed homework is turned in on Friday, your child is meeting expectations.

  • What is your classroom behavior management system?

    Posted by:

Your child's behavior will be recorded each day in their agenda. We use green, yellow, blue, and red cards in our classroom. Everyone starts the day out on green! If they have pulled a card during the day, it will be in their agenda with a little note from me. Please remember that your child is learning and growing and may have to pull a yellow card from time to time but this is not a major concern. Most times just talking to your child at home will change his or her behavior. Please sign the agenda each day so that I know you are getting important notes from me.

PBIS is our countywide behavior system.  It stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports and is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture all students need in order to achieve social, emotional and academic success.  Through this system, students are encouraged to display positive behavior by being rewarded for making good decisions throughout the school day.  Students may earn Canes Cash when they are displaying positive behavior.  Canes Cash can then be used to purchase items in the Canes Store.

  • My child's transportation is changing. How do I make sure he/she gets to the correct place?

    Posted by:

ALWAYS send me a note with any change of transportation.  If your child is normally a bus rider and will be a car rider, simply say he or she will be a car rider.  Be sure the person who is picking up your child has a JCPS car tag displayed clearly.  If you do not have a car tag, you can get one inside the office, but please do this prior to the day you need it.  For bus changes, please give the address where your child will get off the bus.  Always include a phone number where you can be reached should someone need to contact you.  Also, please include the date or dates the transportation change will be in effect.

  • When will my child start to bring home an AR book?

    Posted by:

Once your child can read 100 sight words they will begin the Accelerated Reader (AR) program. In kindergarten this program is used to get your child reading. Your child will bring home a library book to read. Please let your child read the book to you several times. When your child is ready to take a test on the book please send it back to school. Your child will have to read most of the test. Ms. Nena will sit with them while they take the test and can help with unfamiliar words but she cannot read the entire test to your child. Your child needs to take at least 1-2 AR tests per week.
