Dear Third Grade Students and Parents: 

This year, in addition to singing, third grade students will learn to play a woodwind instrument called the Recorder+ (or "Recorder Plus").  You may have previous experience with Recorders (maybe good, maybe not so good), but this new design works better than traditional instruments.  This new design makes the instrument work better for a young child with small hands, and also in classroom or large ensemble playing. The Recorder+ is made by NUVO.

This instrument also comes in a variety of colors that are a fun way for you to have a more personal instrument.  Choose from what you see on the website below.

The patented silicone key flaps make it easier for children to completely cover the tone holes, decreasing the likelihood of squeaks.

The Recorder+ is designed with larger tone holes, which gives the instrument a more mellow tone. This instrument is fully chromatic with the same fingering as a standard Baroque recorder.

Shopping for this instrument, feel free to use any source you are comfortable with.  We have used a local music dealer from Covington who is also happy to deliver instruments to the school during the school year.
