Driver's Education / Joshua's Law

  • Effective January 1, 2007 there will be new requirements for class D driver's licenses

To get a Class D driver's license at age sixteen (16):

    • You must have completed a driver education course approved by the Department of Driver Services and
    • You also must have completed a cumulative total of at least forty (40) hours of other supervised driving experience, including at least six (6) hours at night.

If you have not completed an approved driver's education course, you cannot get your Class D driver's license until you reach age seventeen (17). Remember, forty (40) hour of driving experience, including six (6) hours of driving at night, is always required for a Class D driver's license.

    Attention Parents!

As you may be aware, the Georgia Legislature has enacted a law that requires teenagers to complete a driver education course prior to receiving a license.  The law becomes effective on January 1, 2007.

The classroom portion of the course may be completed online and the actual hands on driving experience can be supervised and documented by the parents.  To facilitate completion of the online portion of the course, beginning in January 2007, a computer lab at Jasper County High School will be accessible to students on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.   Of course, it is your option to have your child complete the modules at home.  Be advised that there is a $35 fee for accessing the online portion.  Upon payment, the participant will receive a login code for the on line training system. Parents and students are encouraged to visit the website below for additional information.
